About the Founders
Brian Van Ness
Co-founder
Brian Van Ness, Ph.D., is a Professor, Emeritus in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development at the University of Minnesota Medical School, as well as the Cancer Center. He served as the Head of the Department for nine years, then served as a Director of the Institute of Human Genetics. His research included pharmacogenomics and precision medicine, from which he has published over 190 journal papers and book chapters.
He was Founder and CEO of Target genomics, LLC, which focused on guiding healthcare providers on the use of genomics. Brian is active in regulatory and legal issues in genomics, both as an expert consultant in patent litigation, as well as a consultant to biotechnology companies and investment groups. He has developed extensive links to experts in genomic technologies, diagnostics, law, commercialization, genetic counseling, data analysis, computation and bioinformatics.
Greg Thelen
Greg Thelen, M.D., MS, is a Psychiatrist at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Dr. Thelen now serves the mental health needs of the rural veteran population through the use of telemedicine delivered to veteran Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Dr. Thelen has an MD as well as a M.S. degree in engineering.
Additionally, Dr. Thelen is the Mental Health Director at PrimeWest Health and a mental health consultant for Hennepin Health and Allina Health in Minneapolis, MN.
